Maggie’s Guide to Cleaning and Finishing your PIT FIRE pots
Hi everyone,
I thought I’d share a little behind-the-scenes on finishing my pot at home. Here’s my process, from fresh out of the fire to the finished piece, if you’re interested in trying it out.
Cleaning:
I normally scrub the pot with a kitchen sponge and then rinse it thoroughly with water. This time, though, I switched things up a bit and sanded.
Sanding:
I used sandpaper to gently sand out the slip I had applied before firing. I made sure to be extra careful as to not disturb the colors on the pot and overall look I was going for.
Drying:
Once cleaned, I let the pot dry completely.
Candle Treatment:
After it was dry, I rubbed the surface with a candle. This step helps smooth things out and gives the pot a subtle shine.
BUFFING:
Finally, I buffed the pot with a fine cloth—the same kind I’d use for cleaning glasses—to achieve a nice, polished finish.
